From what I've read, all pets are the exact same. It's just the looks that are different. And UW spiders are the only tamable spiders in the game thus far.

Actually, I saw somewhere some extensive testing someone did, and they found that all the pets really were identical stats-wise, except for the spiders, who did a tiny bit more damage.

You can only have one ranger pet charmed at a time, unforutnately. I'd love it if they implemented a feature so that you could have multiple pets trained and waiting for you, so you could switch which pet you were using more easily.
As to the spider comment, I've seen tests that showed the spider as dealing more damage, but it turned out they were flawed. They were testing a Dire Spider against a Hearty bear, or some such thing. I'm not saying we read the same people's tests, but it's certainly a possibility. |

I heard pets get piecring, slashing, or blunt attacks ,but I guess thats the only real differnce but if its just LOOKS ill stick with my bird I aint going throguh all the trouble for a spider that just looks "cool" and having to level it up.
Thanks for the info yall |

UW Widows are level 20 regardless if they are dire or elder.

not really:
Whole process takes about 35-60 minutes depending on the group that you go with. You best bet if you are a primary ranger is get the travellers mask and put a Sup wilderness rune in it. Get all your traps if you havent already, and try join UW trapping groups. Once you have some experience as a UW trapper, start asking the groups if they would mind helping you get spider. Process is relatively painless as long as everyone understands not to take any quests unless directed to. |

Ive used the cat, the bear and hog. I gave them all up at lvl 15 or so. They couldnt grow as fast as I did.
I spent many a day trying to get a UW spider, never did. Everything Ive read, says they are the best |

From what ive read in the pet threads all pets do the same amount of damage but different "types" of damage. The spider that was tested was elder so thats maybe why people think the spider is the best.
I could be wrong about this so yeah.. |
